PlayOn video streaming service hits the Wii
Posted by admin in Technology on August 31st, 2009
This generation of gaming consoles has welcomed in video/movie entertainment in full force. Unfortunately, Nintendo’s Wii, despite having the largest install base, does not have much in the way of non-gaming entertainment options. That changes with the introduction of PlayOn, a video streaming application.
The service has already worked fine for users of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but this day Wii joins the celebration this week. Services like Netflix, Amazon, YouTube and Hulu are piped through a Computer into the console by way of a $40 piece of software. New York Times states that a beta service launches tomorrow. There will be a 14-day trial for you to check it out.
If you’d like to sign up for the beta, head here. Let us know how it goes.

Muse’s Matt Bellamy gets plugged into Guitar Hero 5
Posted by admin in Technology on August 31st, 2009
Yet another in-game musician has been revealed for Guitar Hero 5, this time the unlikely and random choice of Muse frontman Matt Bellamy.
Nothing against Bellamy; I love Muse and the band’s music, and I think it’s a perfect fit for these band games. (I simply love playing the bassline of “Hysteria” in Rock Band.) But when you compare him to the other “legends” who will appear in the game — guitarist Santana and the yet-announced, but more or less confirmed Kurt Cobain (among others) — he’s not quite up there. He’s also no Taylor Quick or that guy from Maroon 5.

Create a shirt design, get it in No More Heroes 2
Posted by admin in Technology on August 31st, 2009
If you’re good with them arts, Ubisoft is interested in your particular talent. The publisher is hosting a contest to find a t-shirt design that’ll appear in the upcoming Wii title, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle.
Winners will be chosen personally by Goichi Suda, and the design will appear on the t-shirt of the game’s main character, Travis. Of course, that’s all you win. If you want to see your shirt “in action,” you’ll have to purchase your own copy of the game when it comes out next year. According to the contest’s official rules, the approximate value of the prize in U.S. dollars is zero.
