ION releasing new ‘Drum Rocker Pro’ this holiday

ION releasing new 'Drum Rocker Pro' this holiday screenshot

ION Audio (the folks behind the super deluxe Rock Band ‘Drum Rocker’ drum kit) has announced that it will be releasing a new version of the peripheral/instrument this holiday.

Called the “Drum Rocker Pro,” the kit offers a few enhancements over the original. To begin, the set features a “Drum Rocker Pro Pedal” that has a steel base and all metal construction. Getting even more technical, the sucker has a “dual-chain drive, adjustable beater and rubber trigger assembly” to duplicate “the physics and rebound that drummers demand out of an authentic kick drum pedal.” The pedal even features an adjustable spring for a “customizable feel.”

That’s the large new improvement — the kit appears to be basically the same as the original, with four drum pads and three cymbals, all of which will be fully compatible with the upcoming “Pro” mode in Rock Band 3. Already have a “Drum Rocker” kit? ION will be offering the new pedal as a standalone product; it’ll even work with standard Rock Band drum kits.

The “Drum Rocker Pro” will be available along with the release of Rock Band 3, and you can get one for the Wii, PlayStation 3, or Xbox 360. No word on price, but we’ve put word out to ION to see what’s up.

Mario creator Miyamoto teases a new game character

Mario creator Miyamoto teases a new game character screenshot

When Nintendo throws a shareholder meeting and its band of ever-vigilant public relations folk allow Shigeru Miyamoto to say what’s on his mind, you know we’re in for a treat.

First, a long-sought-after response to the question “what exactly is the deal with Pikmin 3?” The famed designer had this to say: “Amongst the present promises, I’ve to complete Pikmin swiftly, so production is progressing extremely well.”

As an adamant fan of Pikmin, that’s good to hear. I’d much rather be shown something, anything, but what can you do? Moving on to the other major topic of interest at hand, Miyamoto danced around the idea of coming up with a new character for Nintendo.

“It’s been nearly 10 years since I made the Pikmin character, so I feel this is the year where I have to at long last make a new character. This is as far as I’ll answer today.” He also mentioned how he has picked up swimming — take that for what you will.

Club Nintendo ‘Elite’ reward is completely rad

Club Nintendo 'Elite' reward is totally rad screenshot

Club Nintendo has revealed its rewards for its “Elite” members, and it’s, um… wow. It’s awesome.

The “Super Mario Characters Figurine” is a 3.9 inch in height, 4.6 inch in diameter display featuring your favorite Nintendo characters — Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Toad, a Goomba, and Bowser watching over them all. It comes in fancy decorative packaging, if you can stand the keep the sucker in a box.

In order to be eligible for “Elite” status, members will have had to have earned over 600 coins. Me, I’ve earned 410, but I also have half a dozen games I needed to register and surveys I needed to take. Damn my laziness.

But for those of you who hit the mark, enjoy your new awesomeness. Keep in mind, though, you might be waiting a while — Nintendo is saying you should received the reward by December 2010. Check your calendar. That’s a long time from now, so hang tight.

[Thanks Matt and Allen!]
