Activision has announced the Guitar Hero/Band Hero downloadable content spread for July, and it’s like your local “Active Rock” station is about to throw up on your home consoles. Expect track packs from Queen, Avenged Sevenfold, Interrupted, and Shinedown this month.

My pre-teen son is thrilled.

July 6 – Queen 2 Track Pack

  • “Crazy Tiny Thing Called Love”
  • “Killer Queen”
  • “Somebody To Love”

July 13 – The Avenged Sevenfold Track Pack

  • “Aterlife”
  • “Almost Easy”
  • “Scream”

July 20 – Interrupted Track Pack

  • “Down With The Sickness”
  • “Stricken”
  • “Indestructible”

July 27 – Shinedown Track Pack

  • “Devour”
  • “Second Chance”
  • “Sound of Madness”

Tracks will run you the usual 160 MS Points/$1.99/200 Wii Points a piece, or you can save some money and purchase the complete packs for 440 MS Points/$5.49/550 Wii Points.

Transformers: War for Cybertron has easily become my most played game of the year, and I never thought I’d get to state that about a Transformers game. It seems that more playtime is on the cards, too, as details about the first batch of DLC have allegedly surfaced.

Ilomilo’s music will charm the pants off you

Ilomilo's music will charm the pants off you screenshot

I shouldn’t be surprised to find out the soundtrack to Southend Interactive’s Ilomilo meshes nicely with the delightfully chaotic visuals presented on screen. I shouldn’t, but I am.

The music is the sort of relaxed, cheerful, straight-up catchy stuff we don’t necessarily hear a lot of in videogame tunes these days. Plus, the use of quirky sound effects really feeds into this idea — think back to, say, the 90s when there were more constraints on what could and couldn’t be done.

The Ilomilo dev blog is currently offering free downloads of the soundtrack. You know what to do.
